The GOSPEL ON BROWN BAGS
each 24¾x21”; mixed media on brown paper bags
In this cycle, the Gospel is presented in altogether ten pieces. They are given a title and a subtitle each, the latter referring to the Bush presidency. The choice of brown paper bags as surface evokes the cheapness, the ‘disposability’ of events, stories, narratives and spin.

The Gospel is a wonderful tale, a saga—the “good
news” about some long-awaited promised reform.
It is also a type of a capella music originating with
Black slaves featuring call and response. Therefore I
juxtaposed in the titles of each piece scenes from the gospel with political catchwords of the early 2000s.
